ORTA Quilt Block Story:
A top hat was worn by world-famous vaudeville entertainer Ted Lewis, a native of Pickaway County. The Pumpkin symbol reflects Pickaway's pride to host "The Greatest Free Show on Earth" - The Pumpkin Show, held in October. |
The PCRTA Story3
The Pickaway Co. and Adjacent Area Retired Teachers group held its first meeting on December 9, 1967 at the Pickaway Arms with 43 very interested persons in attendance. At the second meeting on March 16, 1968, fifty-seven members were listed on the Charter Membership Enrollment List. Saturday had been the chosen meeting day because teachers were supposed to be "free on that day". The men soon let it be known they were interested in Saturday sports. The meetings were changed to other days, Wednesday seeming to be the most popular. Group organizers: Leslie Dearth, Mildred and J. Austin Dowden. First Officers: 2023 Officers: President – Alva A.
